"Right," Hannah replied. "I'll need to let the Marshall know what happened as well. Sure am dreading his retirement." She shook her head at that. Her father had served in law enforcement in some form or fashion for many years. He deserved to retire yet Hannah could not imagine him doing nothing more than piddling around on their little farm.
She vaulted onto her horse's back and slid her rifle into the scabbard. "Let's go."
"The law is the law."
"Mining's not everyone's choice of hobbies, it just happens to be mine."

Speed looked to Addy and then to Deputy Hanna Cory, "Heck of a job you've got, Hannah." He wheeled his horse to face the way they'd come. "You need a hand there, Addy?" Knowing that the wagon needed to get to town, as there were deliveries to be made and things to be stored for pick up.
Sit down, shut up, don't touch anythin'

"Nah, I got it." Addy grinned, then added, "'Sides, if I need I can let th' Doc here take over!" She gave the man a playful shoulder-to-shoulder nudge, knowing it would annoy him, which, indeed, it did, and knowing that, while he might have skill with a buggy, handling a four-up freight wagon was a whole new skill.
"Could use some help once we get back ta town though, saddlin' up an' headin' out ta th' Indian camps." They'd only have to go to one or two, and she was familiar enough with the ones in the area to know which ones were relatively 'safe'.

"Sure. I can help with that." Speed offered. "Likely you've got deliveries that have to be made, I can lend a hand there too." It wasn't like he had anything else to do. He surely wasn't about to go out looking for mineral samples and the like with the bear on the loose.
"Indian camps? Yeah, I'll ride along on that as well." The thought of that really interested him.
