Really like this idea! I volunteer Brendan as a character suspicion can fall upon, since his name has already become somewhat synonymous with death.

NB due to what happens down the line in 1910, Arabella, Miriam, Jemima and Mike Wentworth cannot swing! ;)]

Actually you can count all of the Wentworths out as possible murderers.  However, they can be suspects depending on where the murder takes place.

I didn't think any of the Wentworths would do it, but there could be a miscarriage of justice: Mike might be suspected because he wears a black hat!

Brendan being under suspicion would be cool - especially if his alibi is one he can't easily admit, like he was secretly seeing Bridget.

In terms of a victim - how about the drunken, widowed barber, Abraham Matthews. He could go on a spree where he staggers around town, insulting various people, telling them a few home truths and threatening to spill secrets he knows about them - then later that evening, he is found dead at home, shot with his own gun (so no clues there!) - the list of possible suspects could be big.

I'd have to let Flip know who the real killer is, so he doesn't accidently arrest the right person! That would spoil the trial.

We needn't play out the day of the murder, that would come out in the trial: the Prosecution and Defence will cross examine various characters, who will give their version of what happened that day - it doesn't even matter if people's recollections are different, probably more realistic!

We already know that if it isn't Arabella, it's Case Steelgrave.

I do agree that playing out the day of the murder isn't necessary. There will be a lot of details, however. developing how certain members of the community would be made suspect. Perhaps by being seen with, or interacting with the deceased, or having a heated argument with the deceased on the day he is found dead. The murder method/weapon could also point to a certain character, like a hoe, pointing to Aurelian Redmond, our only farmer. The gun of course would be the easiest as there would be no way to determine which gun as ballistics had not advanced that far, so it could be anyone.

Yeah, it's Arabella, that's easier, or Brendan...

Well...Brendan being implicated in a murder would have ramifications for his relationship with Bridget. If he was a murder suspect (even though he would be innocent) or associated with the murder in some way, would make it even more difficult for him to see Bridget or to further his cause where she is concerned.

Joking aside, yes that might be unfair to that storyline to implicate him any more than a brief questioning perhaps. Anyone suspect would need to have had interaction with whomever the victim is, and, a reason.

All that being said, if it is a serial killer, then everything changes, but I suspect that with, all this talk of attornies, the arrest will be quick so we can move on to the trial as the focal point of the thread.
