Bonnie shook her head slowly, "No...not yet. In a way that's a good thing as she has her good days and her bad days. Sometimes she remembers you but there are times she doesn't. I don't know much about the human mind but I know it is very complicated. Hopefully, this doctor and his wife can help in ways that neither you, me or the Wentworths can at this time."
She stepped forward and place her hand on Brendan's arm to comfort him, "I know that you are genuine in wanting to look after her but this might be the best solution as you are only one person on your own. The sanitorium have a whole staff of people who can help Bridget. Perhaps, in time as they learn more about her condition, they will be able to cure her or at the least make her better so that she can come back to you."

Brendan flinched at the thought that Bridget already didn't remember him sometimes. How disheartening to have the girl he'd worked so hard for not know who he was. How was he supposed to go on? He looked down at Bonnie's hand as she placed it on his arm in a comforting gesture. Her words were comforting, too, but they only did so much to soothe the pain Bonnie's news had brought on.
"I guess you're right," he said slowly. "I want her to be safe. Happy. Healthy. And if I can't give her that, someone else ought to. If she comes back, she comes back. If not..." He swallowed again and moved toward the house. "I at least know I tried to do what was right."
Shaking his head to clear his thoughts, he glanced back at Bonnie. "You want me to just leave the meat in the kitchen?"
"Yes, that will be fine," Bonnie replied.
It was a good thing that Mrs. Jefferson, the housekeeper would be the only one in the kitchen at this time of day as Mrs. Wentworth would be upstairs talking to both Bridget and Ruth. Mister Wentworth would be still at the bank and so there would be no confrontation between Brendan and her employers. However, as she thought about it for a bit more, it seemed that Brendan was resigned to the fact that Bridget would be leaving soon.
The impending visit of the doctor from the east, also meant that her other patient Ruth would be leaving as well. The woman had never really recovered from ordeal in the wilderness and had kept mostly to her room since her arrival last summer. Ruth had agreed to the decision as she felt that going somewhere new and far away might help her to get better. The only thing left to do was to see to if Ruth's daughter, Natosi would going with her or staying with the Wentworths. This was something Ruth was still thinking about and no-one was about to rush her.
As for herself, as soon as Bridget and Ruth left, she would be without a job. The Wentworths were kind enough to let her stay for the winter while she decided where to go. There was one main reason she wanted to stay in Kalispell but the only option for work would be the new hospital. It was still uncertain if Miss Steelgrave and Doctor Danforth had hired any staff for the hospital already but she hoped that they hadn't. Until she got a chance to talk to either one of them, she still had her responsibilities here.
Watching Brendan, as he placed the crate of meat on the kitchen table, Bonnie felt sorry for him. "I know you have done all you can for Bridget and I wish I could do something to help but my financial situation isn't much better than yours. It would have been nice if we both had the means to give Bridget the help she needs here."
