"So do we, and that all hinged on getting the circus to come here on the 4th of July. We were lucky to get it. Now, it's all the other things that came to mind that we will need." Speed said, taking the form. "I'll get this done and bring 'er right back, Luke."
It was a fairly simple form and he finished it quickly then walked back over to the cage, "Here ya go, Luke."
"I'll just get Mister Wentworth to approve this and unless you need to talk him, everything should be fine."
"Oh, I need to transfer five hundred out of my account into this new one, and you know, yes, if he has time, I would like to speak with him on this idea," Speed told Luke. Things were coming together!

An hour later Alice dismounted at the big yellow and white house it was big! And in the daylight much bigger than it looked for the Christmas party. She tied her horse at the hitch rail and then climbed the steps to the porch and the front door where she knocked unsure of who might answer the door, what with the baby and all, and Barnabas either working on the ranch, or already in town before she had started out.
The door opened with a black man was on the other side. "Yes 'um?" Pythias Modeena asked. "Come ta see Misses Pike an' Whee\ler I reckon. I 'member you from the Christmas party. The Mashal betrothed ain't it? Miss Fletcher?"
"Yes Mister Modeen and I remember you as well, are they awake?" She asked, "I had no idea how to let them know I was coming, just took my chances."
The Misses is up and about, but I believe from the quiet Master SWheel'd be asleep, please, come in I'll get Misses Pike for ya, make yerself ta home." Pythias suggested and then closed the door behind the woman and dashed up the stairs returning with Emiline.
No one is as important enough to walk wherever he wants. He's bound to run into something that will stop him.
"Oh, I need to transfer five hundred out of my account into this new one, and you know, yes, if he has time, I would like to speak with him on this idea," Speed told Luke. Things were coming together!
"I'll go get him now," Luke replied.
He disappeared into the office of his employer and a short time later, Charles walked out and greeted the lawman.
"Marshall Guyer, it's a pleasure to see you again," Charles said as he held out his hand.
"Luke tells me that you're planning to open an account for a town celebration and that you're in talks with a circus. It sounds like a grand idea."

Wheeler was several days old now, and Emeline was starting to feel more herself again, and she was getting back into a routine around the house. When Pythias announced Alice's arrival she was in the kitchen making bread. She thanked him, then wiped her flour-covered hands on her apron as she headed to the entry.
"Alice! How good to see you!" Smiling brightly, she hugged her friend. "Please, come in...I'm in the process of kneading bread, so I might just put you to work! Once it's in the oven, I'll give you the tour...and let you see Wheeler, of course."
She didn't realize how much she was pining for interaction with another woman until now. "What brings you here?"
"Emiline, it is good to see you're at it already," Alice said with a smile. This place is beautiful. Seeing it in the daylight all but took my breath away, She stepped to Emiline and gave her a hug, "Oh don't worry, I've been covered in flour before a little bit more won't hurt and likely blow off on my ride home."
"So, I really need to share the latest from town. Nothing earth-shaking, but let me tell you, Speed, Phineas McVay, Addy Chapple are working on bringing a circus here on July the fourth. The plan includes fireworks, a big dance, and all the things a county fair would have and I believe that the plan they have will go on for a couple of days at least. Now what do you think of that?" Alice extolled.
"Can you believe it? A circus right here in Kalispell?" She asked. "I'm so excited at the prospect. The fun that everyone will have at something like that. And a dance, probably every night. Plus I think he said they were considering a rodeo as well. I mean this is just marvelous!"
"A circus?" Emeline grinned widely as she led the way to the kitchen. "That would be so much fun! I got to see one when I was twelve or so, and it was amazing, spurred the imagination!" She laughed. "I wanted to be a lion tamer!"
Warmth from the oven met them as they entered the kitchen, where there was a plain table, covered with bowls and pans. "If you'd like, you can knead one of those bowls of dough. Oh, and you can wash in the sink there." She pointed to the metal built-in sink that had a hand water pump right there. "Wheeler's sleeping," she nodded to a bassinet off to the side, "he'll probably wake up soon, though."
"So, the Fourth? I'll have to talk to Barnabas about giving the men a chance to go, I'm sure they'd like that, especially if there's a rodeo. I think it will be a great thing for the town, too."
She started in on kneading a clump of dough. "I never thought there'd be a circus here, and fireworks? What about a parade?"
"A circus?" Emeline grinned widely as she led the way to the kitchen. "That would be so much fun! I got to see one when I was twelve or so, and it was amazing, spurred the imagination!" She laughed. "I wanted to be a lion tamer!"
"Oh, I know! I was fortunate, I have been to several when I was growing up, but I don't think I wanted to be anything, except once when I was about ten I wanted to run away with the circus, but I didn't." Alice confessed. "How my life would have changed had I run off. I never would have met Speed, and then reconnected with him."

"My goodness, yes, I'd love to! It's these things that I love doing but I'm afraid until Speed and I tie that knot in June, well, I'll just have to get in here and lend a hand." Was her response and she went over and pumped water into a bowl sitting in the sink and scrubbed her hands, which she dried on the towel hanging nearby and slipped quietly over to have a peek. then back to that bowl of dough. He is so sweet looking, just sleeping without a care in the world. I can't wait for Speed and me to get started!

"Well, that's what all of them are saying. It will be a tremendous boost for Kalispell, there will be people from all over coming to join in the fun, I'll bet the rodeo will be as popular as the circus, the men showing off their skills. But there will be all of the usual contests like baking and needlepoint, painting, and all manner of things that us women and children can do."

"I know! I couldn't believe Speed when he was telling me about all of the things they had been discussing." A.lice explained. "Speed went to the bank to open an account strictly for the event, Kalispell Founders Day, well days I should say. This will be the best thing to happen around here. Why, the town will be famous for doing it! At least in this part of the territory."

"Marshall Guyer, it's a pleasure to see you again," Charles said as he held out his hand.
Speed gripped the man's hand and shook it, "Yes sir, been a while."
"Luke tells me that you're planning to open an account for a town celebration and that you're in talks with a circus. It sounds like a grand idea."
"Well sir, that it is, and that it will be. You see, we're opening an account for donations and I want to kick it off with five hundred dollars." Speed explained. "We are planning a host of events that won't cost anything, or not much if they do. It's the circus and the fireworks display that will cost us. The circus, eleven hundred, and I have not heard back on the fireworks display as yet. But soon I'm hoping. I want to nail down expenses as soon as we can. McVay and Addy, Missues Thornton-Carlton and young Tully Nevada, and Hector Wigfall with his musicians are all involved, so far." He chuckled, "We hope to garner more folks to help make what wev are calling, 'Founders Day' a huge success. Though we may need to call it Founders Days, as it could stretch better than a single day as we might just have the circus more than one day.

Helena was a good ways away, so if Montana ever became a state, Kalispell was in the running to be an important town, especially with the fall of Whitefish and the coming of the railroad.
"We should...I think Barnabas knows some of the territorial politicians, maybe we can invite them, make it a really big fuss?"
She shrugged, forming her dough into a loaf that she laid on a pan. "Shape up your loaf there and we'll get them in the oven." She smiled. "Then we can sit and have some coffee. Wheeler should be ready for a snack soon."

"Oh, I agree! This can't help but be good for the area, and yes I suppose that the demise of Whitefish, and from what I understand, the lawless element in control there, makes a huge difference. Speed said that Case Sreelgrave has not been seen, or heard from since he brought in the man who shot him." Alice agreed.

"Oh yes, no doubt that people of importance would make a big difference, especially if there's something that we need that the Territorial folks can provide. Wasn't there a lawyer who left here to join the Governor's staff? I believe I've heard something about that."

"Now that sounds really good, and I think this one is kneaded enough." Alice said as she shaped the dough into a loaf, then laid it on a pan, "Ready to go!" As she turned there was Ham the dog, sitting there looking at her with those sad eyes "Oh no you don't. It's not even baked yet."
