Well, she had never fished at all, knew nothing about it. Very well, Turk could assume nothing then when it came to teaching her.
He handed over a pole to her. As he grabbed the can containing the worms, she gave it an almost frightened look?
"Is that the wiggly worms?"
"Yep, that be them," he smiled and reached in for one, extracting a big ol' nightcrawler.
"It's good that they are wiggly for that wiggling is what catches the fishes' attention. Then they come and chomp down for a tasty snack, the hook gets them and the fish can't get away. Then ya go and pull 'em up and outta the water. If we get any, I can fry 'em up for us. They are delicious fried up in butter, loved 'em as a kid," Turk talked away as he then showed her how to attach the worm to the hook at the same time.
"See, like that, easy enough. And my pole is all set for fishing. Now.......you do yer worm. Best learn by doin' ya know," he pointed out.
Sally looked up admiringly at Cabot while he gave her a combined lecture and practical demonstration of baiting a hook.

"If... I mean when we catch them, I should gut and fry 'em... a woman should cook for a man." she countered.

She pulled a face as she reached gingerly for the worm, and then gave a girlish squeal as she held it and managed to plunge the hook through its slimy body.
"Ewww... it's all slippery!" she yelped, but managed to do it all right. "Did I do it good?" she asked lifting up her brown eyes.
"If... I mean when we catch them, I should gut and fry 'em... a woman should cook for a man." she countered.
"Well, if you wish to do that then....I shall be more than willing to eat them," Turk smiled.
He then proceeded to demonstrate fixing a worm onto the hook then declaring she needs to give it a try. Best way to learn really.

"That's it, Sally...that's right. There ya go!" he was jovial at her success actually.
"Did I do it good?" she asked lifting up her brown eyes.
"You sure did, Sally, sure did!" He looked toward the river.
"So, we are now set to fish. Just give your pole a flick in the general direction of the water and let that there worm do his part. Oh and don't get impatient, it might take a while for those fish to even notice our bait. Fishing requires patience. Oh, you can take a seat should you wish?" for now he remained standing.

She smiled happily to herself.

"Uh huh... all right... here I go..." she made her first cast and cast it surprisingly well. She kept her eye on the ripples where her hook had gone in and murmured "I sure hope that there worm can swim. I'd hate to have a drownded worm on my conscience!"
She stood patiently.
She stood patiently some more.
Then she called "Seweeeeeee fish fish fish!"
But that didn't help none.
She sighed "I think I just scareded 'em off."

"Nice toss, Sally. You're a natural," he was quick to compliment her, "As for the worm, it will have died for a good cause."
She stood patiently.
She stood patiently some more.
Unsurprisingly neither had a bite or even a nibble so far.
Then she called "Seweeeeeee fish fish fish!"
But that didn't help none.
She sighed "I think I just scareded 'em off."
Turk couldn't help but laugh, "Well, you might have. When I said fishing takes patience, I probably should have also said it's best to be quiet also. So as not to scare the fish away."
"Not yer fault though, I shoulda warned ya," he added.
Just then there was a flash and then a small splash some fifty feet away, just ripples now though.
"Or maybe not, that was a fish jumping you know. Maybe all that jumping will make him hungry too?" he said hopefully.

"Ohhh, sorry!!" she whispered.
"Not yer fault though, I shoulda warned ya," he added.
She nodded silently and got back to watching the smooth flowing river.

"Come on, bite!" hissed Sally through gritted teeth. "Should ha' brought a net instead" she grumbled. What was wrong with these fish? Hadn't anybody told 'em the rules.
"Come on, bite!" hissed Sally through gritted teeth. "Should ha' brought a net instead" she grumbled.
"Nah, never used a net. Hear they do out on the oceans though but then never saw me an ocean," Turk shrugged then decided to sit down and relax, still having his role in hand though.
No one had a watch out so who knew how much time passed, it probably seemed longer to the impatient Sally than Turk though, who was enjoying sneaking peeks at Sally when she focused on the water. He didn't agree with her pessimism, she was a very pretty girl in his opinion and that was all that counted.
But then it happened. A fish grabbed the bait on Sally's line and became thoroughly hooked. There was a splash at the surface and the fight was on.
"You got one, Sally! Hang on now, girl! Don't yank just keep it under control and start walking backwards. Soon as it's close enough I can reach for the line and get it out of the water. You can do this!"
Suddenly, Sally felt a pull on her line.
"Oooh! MrFlagg! MrFlagg! What's happening?!!" she called to Cabot.
"You got one, Sally! Hang on now, girl! Don't yank just keep it under control and start walking backwards. Soon as it's close enough I can reach for the line and get it out of the water. You can do this!"
"Walk backwards! Right!!" she started to obey his command, but within seconds she had dropped her fishing pole as she fell backwards with a yelp over a fallen tree trunk, feet in he air, displaying a good deal of thick black stockings and a tantalising glimpse of well-worn but thankfully clean white cotton drawers!
As she lay winded on her back, immobile, her legs and above completely on display for all the world to see, she caught her breath enough to cry "Oh Mr Flagg, please don't look, I'm all on show!"
Before he could warn her she was backing up toward a fallen log, Sally spilled backwards, lost the pole, legs flying upward.

Turk didn't care about the poles, the fish on the hook, just wanted to be sure Sally was not hurt. He moved toward her, a look of worry on his craggy features.
As she lay winded on her back, immobile, her legs and above completely on display for all the world to see, she caught her breath enough to cry "Oh Mr Flagg, please don't look, I'm all on show!"
Now actually he had barely noticed either the stockings or drawers, just those pale white legs of hers. Frankly he had only seen Caroline's legs and they were something to behold. That was during one of her dance numbers up on stage of course.
"I'm not seein' nothing, Sally. Yer fine...yer not hurt any are ya? Lemme help you up," he took one of her arms and hauled her right up to her feet again. Suddenly they were right up in each's faces. Turk almost gave her a kiss right then and there but fortunately remembered her reaction not that long ago. He got it really, he was indeed hideous after all.
"Yer calling me Mr. Flagg again, I thought we had progressed to our first names?" he pointed out softly.

Cabot pulled Sally up so effortlessly, she felt like either she was a fairy made of feathers or else he was even stronger than he looked.
(It was the latter)
"Yer calling me Mr. Flagg again, I thought we had progressed to our first names?" he pointed out softly.
She didn't move out of his rescuing embrace, but stayed and merely looked up at him and murmured: "But you haven't told me your first name yet... Mr Flagg"
