"The law is the law."
"Mining's not everyone's choice of hobbies, it just happens to be mine."
"Strained? I suppose that could be, still, I think in that event, you'd best rest it, and maybe see the doctor about it if the pain persists." Speed advised, but still, there was something that just was not sitting right with him on all of this. Jimmy was known for not making the best of decisions. He was also known as a prankster who was not any too particular about who he pulled one on. That may well have been the case. It would not take long to find out.
"So, if you're finished, I'll be heading over to the Stardust and see what's what with all of this. You're the second man to register a complaint about this fellow, so I need to get over there and see him, maybe see if I can't get a handle on what his problem is with people here in Kalispell."
All women look the same in the dark - most critters, too
"So, if you're finished, I'll be heading over to the Stardust and see what's what with all of this. You're the second man to register a complaint about this fellow"
Jimmy was surprised. Another complaint? Really? Well, that couldn't be better!
"Can't say I'm surprised, Mr Guyer." Jimmy lied "Feller's crazy, probably out of his mind with opium, all them chinks are!"
"... so I need to get over there and see him, maybe see if I can't get a handle on what his problem is with people here in Kalispell."
"Well good luck, Marshal!" Miller said, turning to go and then spinning back to add "And don't believe anything that cross-patch Caroline Mundee says! She's had it in for me ever since she was sweet on me and I turned her down flat!"
Well, one good lie deserved another.
He made off down the street a happier man.

"The law is the law."
"Mining's not everyone's choice of hobbies, it just happens to be mine."
Alright then, there were some things that Guyer might believe about Jimmy's story. that Caroline Mundee would have any interest in him was a bald-faced farce of unbelievability! That drew everything he said into the light of suspicion. He had no doubt there had been a run in between him and the Japanese fellow, as well as Caroline, or perhaps it was that Miss Mujndee would tell him the truth of what happened.
He stood, then picked up his notes and went over them again, and as he re-read the statement Jimmy had made, things just naturally took a turn for the other direction, which had him thinking of Boyd's statement. Well, to his way of thinking, there was only one way to get to the bottom of all this: head over to the saloon and clear the air, after all, the Japanese man was innocent until proven guilty by the facts, and for at least one complaint, witnesses would make the difference!
He laid the complaints back on his desk, took his hat from the peg and put it on, pulling it down from the back of the crown, then opened the door and stepped into the hall and out the front door and stopped surveying the street. The Stardust sat right across the street from the Municipal Building, handy on a wild Saturday night.
