"A hundred and ten saloons?" Emeline stood and turned to face Barnabas, frowning. "Why in heaven's name do they need so many? And there goes our plan to invest in a saloon here!"
Laughing, she took his hand. "I'm looking forward to seeing all the places that you haunted while you were here...well, not all, I suppose we can pass on all those saloons! And you're right, I'm ready for a good meal, something simple, and then you can tell me what your plans are, so I can make mine!"

"A hundred and ten is a large number o drinking establishments, granted, but there are a lot of miners. As well a many more people that work here , own businesses, and such. So one by I spring up, folks go there. Otherwise the close their doors til another business, if not a saloon opens up there. And no, even as a deputy I was never in all of them." He explained.
He grinned, "Now, walkin' about in town here, we'll go out on the main floor to 'C' Street. No sense climbin'up Union, when we don't have to. In fact, as you might have figured, all the streets goin' down are steep." Which, of course, was the truth. The town sat on the side of Sun Mountain. "So if we're ready, let's go. Places to be, people to see."

"I'm right beside you!" Emeline took his arm, anxious to see the town, and ponder on how it, along with the whole hill-side didn't just slide into the valley. Of course, the noise that hit them as they stepped outside was stunning, and she was glad that they were just passing through.
"It would be a shame," she observed, "not to be able to hear the falls, or the birds, and wind rustling through the trees." She certainly would appreciate the soft noises of nature at home after this place!
She supposed, though, if one were to consider each ring of a stamp as a coin in the pocket, the racket wouldn't be so bad!

As they stepped out onto 'B' Street they were looking directly at Pipers Opera House, where most of the biggest names in the entertainment world had, and did perform. He stopped watching the flood of wagons and horses in the street passing by, not to mention the people on the board walks.
"We'll sure attend a performance at Pipers while we're here. No telling who might be performing there, they've had some of the biggest names of the day there." He explained. "But the best restaurants are down on 'C' Street. Stores, saloons, sort of a you name it. It's likely to be found there." He smiled, as frantic as the place could be, there was something about the place that had stayed with him like no other place until Kalispell. "So, Let's walk down, I promise we'll go in through the lower entrance on the way back."
