Physical Description

Justus is tall and lanky, a boy on the verge of becoming a man. He has mousy brown hair and brown eyes. He wears typical cowboy-type clothes -- cotton shirt, duck pants and plain leather chaps, bandana, and a crumpled hat. He rides a gangly brown and white pinto with blue eyes. He is basically a non-descript, quiet and unassuming, not wanting to draw any attention to himself.

Biography
Reputation

Justus is a hard worker, quiet, he keeps to himself and is not much of a talker.  For the most part, if something angers him, he doesn't show it, and would just as soon walk away from a fight.  Still, when the need arises, to protect himself, or someone else, Justus goes all-in, knowing that any hesitation could be fatal.

While Justus grew up helping his father run con games, now that he is on his own, he is trying to earn a legitimate living, and has worked with cattle for a couple of years, although he has never been on a drive.

Timeline

May 31, 1858, born to Cecil Gibbs and wife, Sarah Wheeler Gibbs.  Cecil works odd jobs in northern Texas, barely managing to provide for his family

Late 1862, Cecil joins the CSA and heads off to war, while Sarah gets by selling eggs and taking in laundry

June 1864, Sarah dies of diphtheria and Justus is taken care of by friends and family, although never in one place for long

June 1865, Cecil returns home, packs up what little there is, then takes his son and joins up with some army buddies to roam around looking for jobs.  For a time they do find short jobs -- carpentry, working cattle, helping on farms -- but gradually they turn to crime, robbing businesses in small settlements that have little protection, then expanding to larger, more lucrative targets.  Justus, being a kid, is taught to run scams, to deflect attention, and although he never directly participates in the robberies

1874  Fed up with the escalating crimes, Justus tries to talk his father into walking away, and finally just heads out on his own when the 'gang' robs a mercantile and the owner is killed.  From here on, Justus will try to make his own way, doing what he can, when he can, hoping to find something permanent, although he wants to go farther north, first, away from his past and his father.
