"Every town needs a newspaper."
"Oh good, you're back, Sarah. I've sent Tommy after the Marshal and Addy, as we have news, good news about the Founders Day Celebration that I think you are all going to like. But I'd like to wait until we have everyone here." Phikn teased. "I believe we will need to see if we can't rustle up some committees, and that's what it'll take to get this show up and running."
"We're going to need a few things in place sooner rather than later, and taht's what these committees can get done for us. I can tell you there is intrest already from that last article for the outlying areas. Of course, that's not the big news I have to share." Phin grinned.

Without being asked, Tully fetched a tray set with mugs and a plate of cookies, as well as a pot of fresh coffee, all that she set on a table by the press. Any time there was work to be done, coffee and cookies could soothe the way!
It was only a moment later that Addy swept in, having hastily changed her shirt to something that was clean, and called out cheerfully, "I'm here now! We can start!" She laughed.
"The law is the law."
"Mining's not everyone's choice of hobbies, it just happens to be mine."
On her heels was Speed Guyer, he stepped through and closed the door. "Alright then, what's the big news so far, Phin? Something interesting, I hope."
"I think so." The publisher said with a smile, "Coffee and cookies on the table." He gave everyone a moment to help themselves or take a seat. "The big news is we are getting responses from the outlying areas, as far away as Bannack and Missoula, plenty of the smaller towns too. A fella from near Virginia City says he's got a tent Hotel he'd bring and set up for folks with nowhere to stay, and we've plenty of cleared ground."
A tent hotel was just that a big tent that could house a goodly number of people. They would need all the room they could get if this event went off as planned.
"I got a wire from our old friend Dutton Peabody, thanking me for the papers I sent to the Capitol, and he said the Governor was allocating five hundred dollars for the event. He also said that he had a line on a pumper that was reasonable. So there you are, Speed. Pike should be happy about that."
"Great news, Phin, Yes, he will be happy about that." Speed said.
"Every town needs a newspaper."
"But there was more," Phin told them, "The Governor and a party of bureaucrats will be here for the festivities come the fourth. Now that ought to set everyone on their ear!" He grinned, "I mean, having the territorial Governor here is a big deal."
"Oh, I agree! The money and the politicians? How could we beat that? That makes Kalispell a big deal." Speed said, But I got word on the fireworks display, it comes with four men to set 'em off for us. The hotel and the boarding house need to be alerted. That might fill the hotel with the Governor's party. What do you ladies think of these developments?"
"Yes, yes, speak up, ladies, these are exciting developments for the town," Phin said proudly.

"Will surely be good fer th' town in more ways than one!" Addy hadn't had much formal education, but she knew that when there was a big shindig like this, it attracted a lot of people, which meant a lot of business for the local businesses, which meant a good influx of money. Nothing wrong with that!
"Reckon there'll be extra supplies that need bringin' in, hotels'l be full, restaurants busy...Good thing fer business! An' if we do this right, next year'll be all th' better, 'cause word will'a gotten around on how fun it was!"
Sarah nodded in agreement, "You've certainly got all angles covered. Having the Governor here will certainly add some prestige to the occasion. With the way things are going were going to need another hotel and more housing. I know that Mason Aldridge is interested in staying after the hospital to build more homes so that will help. From what I've seen of him, he's the enterprising sort and so I wouldn't be surprised if he's thinking about a hotel as well."
She meekly smiled, hoping no-one would ask her about how she knew about Mason's plans. He had told her, she supposed, to impress her and maybe to prove that he was going to be around for a while. Now that she had given in and asquiesced to his offer of dinner, she wonder how much longer he would keep pursuing her.
Turning her attention back to the conversation, she continued, "Do we an official statement from the mayor about this that we can print to show that the town council supports the event?"

"Every town needs a newspaper."
"We do." Phin said taking the folded telegram from his inside coat pocket. He handed it to Sarah, "Came yesterday. Not as good as a letter for publication, but it'll by God do!"
"Great! And having that printed for folks to read, that outta get folks excited about Founders Day. That and the hospital's grand opening at the same time." Speed offered. "And you're right, there needs to be places for folks to say as there'll be a lot of them coming from all over, so we need to look aroub][nd and see what's available. There are several empty buildings that could be spruced up and cleaned out for places to stay."
"And good news about Alderidge staying and thinking of building. He was in on the stageline right? I mean, he already has a stake in this town, right? The way things are going, either another hotel or another boarding house, because the need is there with the mines in the area that are hiring."
