Leah could see that there was a real problem with all of this; she had grown up with this stuff. And trying to explain it was getting murkier and harder to comprehend as they went along. She was trying to figure out a way to make all of this easier to digest.
Josiah smiled as he reached into his pocket and drew out some coins. Five twenty-dollar gold pieces placed on the table and laid out in front of him. "I assume that there are premium stocks available? I'll take one hundred shares. I'll leave the common stock."
"If there isn't, there is now." Leah declared.
Elinor produced several notes and laid them on the table. "And I'll take five hundred of those premium stocks!" She announced, pushing the money toward the center of the table. "I hope you are noting all this Weedy."
Weedy's eyes were wide as all the gold pieces were laid out. He'd never seen so much in one place, and didn't even think the bank had that much! "Yes, I got it," he confirmed with a nod, carefully noting in his pad who offered what, and what was said about 'shares', even though he understood that about as well as Addy.
"That'll be enough ta get them two more wagons," Addy declared, feeling more and more overwhelmed by everything. Still, she was grateful for the help and generosity. With this money and her own, she'd be able to start full-swing much sooner. "So, then, what's th' interest... " that was something she understood, "an' when I gotta pay it back?"
"Good work Weedy." Josiah said, smiling and nodding his approval of the boys' work. It would not be perfect, but it would be legible and therefore legal.
"Well, now. We seem to have covered the first purchase, so I will have to do my fair share, not that I feel required, but because I need to support this worthwhile endeavour." She then counted out five hundred dollars. That made the total so far eleven hundred dollars for operating expenses."
"The tinkling of the bell over the door announced the arrival of customers, and they were old friends, Speed and Alice. "Well, look here, Alice, looks to me like a business meeting of some kind. Anything that might interest us?" He asked.
