1843-1860

Born in 1843 and is the oldest son of Nathaniel and Myra Aldridge.  The family live in Bristol, Rhode Island where Nathaniel has a small building and carpentry business.  Mason learns a lot of about buidling from his father and his father's colleagues.

1860-1862

Goes to Brown University (Rhode Island) to study engineering for two years.

1862-1865

Joins the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for the duration of the Civil War.  He resigns from the Union Army shortly after the war ends.

1865-1876

Mason and his younger brother Stephen head to Helena, Montana to a look for gold.  When they arrive, they find that there is more money in construction and they set up their own business which becomes very successful. They branch out from Helena, into other areas of Montana over the years gaining a reputation for reliabilty and good workmanship.

When the company is hired by Leah Steelgrave to work on the Kalispell hospital and orphanage, Mason sees this an opportunity for more business.  He decides to go to Kalispell  to supervise the hospital project as well as take on any smaller projects he finds.
