1848 - 1952
Born to Adam and Elizabeth Bowen. The eldest of six children. Had a happy childhood. Developed a habit for self-learning and knowledge early in life. Attends school until 15 years.
1862 - 1867
Leaves school after the death of her mother to become a companion to her widowed Aunt Emily (her mother's sister). Emily takes her in as she was the eldest daughter in order to help the family out as Katherine's father Adam was incapable of looking after all of his children. Her two younger sisters were taken in by Myra Jones (her father's sister). After five years, Emily re-marries and Katherine takes a job as governess.
Living in the North during the Civil War, she heard and read stories about it. On a few occasions she did meet some soldiers but didn't get to know them that all well. Her brother Michael, even though he wanted to go and fight was kept at home to learn a trade (as a carpenter) - for which she was very glad. Her other brothers were far too young to go to war. She did see the effect the war had on other families and friends and was thankful when it was all over.

Governess to a rich family. Resigns and becomes a school teacher in Avoca, Wisconsin.
1872 - 1875
School teacher in Avoca, Wisconsin. Wanting to see more of the country, she resigns to take up the position of teacher in Kalispell.
1875 - 1876
Arrives in Kalispell in August 1875. She is currently still teaching and has no plans to marry despite the rumours going around town.
