June 1843 - September 1861
Born the second eldest of five children to Charles and Rebecca Wentworth. His father worked as aide to a number of senators and is considered an important man to know if you want to get ahead in Washington. His childhood was uneventful. He grew up reading and hearing stories about life outside Washington, especially in the territories and yearned to go out there. When his brother Matthew fails to graduate, Mike's father decides that he should go to Yale to become a lawyer.
September 1861 - April 1865
Within weeks of arriving at Yale, Mike quits and joins the US (Union) Army. Starting as a private, he eventually rises to the rank of lieutenant during the course of the war. After a brief visit home, he heads out west to live the life he always wanted.
May 1865 - July 1871
Learns and works as a ranch hand in various places. He eventually ends up in Medicine Bow, Wyoming.
July 1871 - August 1875
Working as ranch hand in Medicine Bow, when his brothers Sam and Charlie turn up. They leave and head for Kalispell.
September 1875
Gets the job of ranch foreman at Lost Lake Ranch.
